Video System & Content Design for NBC’s Education Nation Initiative

We were super pleased to be asked by NBC and Producer Jack Morton Worldwide to join the team on NBC’s Education Nation broadcast initiatives in September of 2011. The brief was to create a custom broadcast set in the plaza of 30 Rock, utilizing the statue of Prometheus surrounded by an array of dimensional panels, all of which we would projection mapped. The set would be used for the NBC Nightly News broadcasts, Today Show broadcasts, and MSNBC for a 5 day period. Live and taped broadcasts would be happening for twelve hours on each day, with full overnight calls to accomplish camera rehearsals and changeovers. Because of broadcast sightline priorities we had to place the mapping projectors in very unusual positions to cover the set, which comprised wall AND ceiling panels. With the help of superstar programmer Jason Rudolph, and the phenomenal team from DannyO/Screenworks/MODE Video the system was loaded in and calibrated smoothly and without flaw. Content was created within the 3D set model in Cinema 4D, and the model information was then imported into Hippotizer HD servers and tweaked with the warping engine. Pre-built content, a live twitter feed, and numerous signal paths from NBC were integrated to create an amazing, living media set piece.
