Avril Lavigne’s Black Star 2011 World Tour

I was fortunate to be asked to design content for Avril Lavigne’s 2011 Black Star Tour… Production Design by Butch Allen, with help from the amazing Jim Lenihan…  The inimitable Production Manager Nick Jean, and a fantastic video department led by Bill Crooks…

The brief was to create some fantastic interstitials for transitioning the “acts” of the shows.  Avril would be showing her punky side, her poppy side, as well as her thoughtful song writing side.  It was important for the show to have a solid arc from point to point, and content was the bridge.  With blessings from Disney we were able to use some fantastic footage from Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, for which Avril had written a song in the score.  For an exciting and career spanning show opener I headed down to Hollywood with the unbelievably cool GoPro HD camera http://gopro.com/products/?gclid=CJSpxaLI9KgCFQQ-bAodTzK0TQ and strapped it to pro skateboarder Patrick Columbo… We affixed it to his deck, as well as strapping it to his knee for some great down shots of the board thrashing through the Hollywood environment.  Mixed with some amazing video moments of Avril, and set to her cover of “Bad Reputation” it gets the audience into berserk mode, and ready for a full dose of Avril.  The show will be out worldwide through next year…
